柯蔚 Aleena Kaye
柯老师拥有文学硕士学位和初高中双重教学资质,以及12年的语文教学经验。柯老师曾在国外任教语文课程4年,拥有丰富的帮助外籍学生备考IGCSE和IB的经验。她熟知IB课程标准下的PYP,MYP及DP教学,对双语教育和多元文化有着更深层次的理解。
柯老师坚信完整而均衡的教育是鼓励学生在学科之间建立联系,并自觉、有创造力地学习,对学习永远保持热忱和好奇心。在中文课堂上,通过与现实世界进行联系,激发学生创造性地、批判性地思考。有了在真实情境中处理问题,提高修养的机会,学生们更容易学会独立和合作地解决问题,也能快速掌握适合学术和现实社会的语言技能。
在教学方面,柯老师致力于课程开发和创新教学方法,并拥有开设中国文化及通史略览课程的经验。

Aleena Kaye has a Master's Degree in Chinese Language and Literature, and has a teaching qualification for both middle school and high school. She has 12 years experience of Chinese teaching. For the last Seven years she has been teaching primary, secondary and advanced both in mainland and aboard, including four years of IGCSE and IB Mandarin B. She has great understanding of the Chinese teaching in PYP, MYP and DP.
Aleena believes in a holistic education that encourages students to make connections between subjects and learn naturally and creatively - an education that instills curiosity and the love for learning. By connecting to real world in Mandarin class, the students are motivated to think creatively and critically. With the opportunity to deal with problems in real situations and improve self-cultivation, the students learn to solve problems both independently and collaboratively, also develop language skills appropriate for the academic and social world.
Aleena has worked on curriculum development and teaching methodology, and has experience planning Mandarin culture and general history programs.

What is your understanding of bilingual education?
我非常热爱双语教学。有证据表明如果学校在学龄前儿童、少儿和高年级学生中使用双语进行教学,其学生更具专注力,使用两种语言的儿童能够更好地专注于任务,并自动排除不相关的干扰。作为一种交流工具,语言在辅助学科之间的交流和理解中起着非常重要的作用。例如数学,你需要更多地运用抽象思维,而使用两种语言在数学科目中进行沟通,正好可以辅助学生培养抽象思维,并强化语言的元认知技能。
积聚能量,提升知识储备,是为了保持健康并拥有高质量的生活。而学习另一种语言是扩充知识储备,增强认知潜能的首要部分。

Evidence shows that there is a better focus, so children who use two languages are able to focus better on tasks and kind of ignore irrelevant disruptions if we have bilingual education in pre-school children, early age, and upper levels students. As a communication tool, language plays a very important role in the communication and understanding between the auxiliary subject. For example Mathematics, where you need to use more of your abstract thinking, because using two languages develops abstract thinking and also metalinguistic skills as well which are then useful for learning further languages.
What we know today about building cognitive reserves in terms of staying healthy for longer, having good quality life, we know that learning another language is on the top of the list of activities that you can do to enhance your cognitive potential, and to enhance your cognitive functioning throughout your lifetime.

我拥有很强的课程设计能力,除了课堂教学经验外我一直在从事汉语课程的开发和组织中国文化庆祝活动。我还教授了一系列的课外活动,包括:夏令营教学、茶会俱乐部和中国历史文化课。我希望能帮助学生提高自身的文化认同感,同时也能让他们放眼看世界。

I have great understanding of bilingual education and multiculture because of my rich experience in teaching in Internation schools. I know how to encourage students to make connections between subjects and learn naturally and creatively - an education that instills curiosity and the love for learning.
One of my greatest strength, which I can bring to NAS Nantong, is my ability in curriculum design. In addition to classroom teaching experience, being the only one Chinese Language and literature teacher at my current school, I have been leading the Chinese program in the development of the Mandarin curriculum and organizing Chinese cultural celebrating events. I have participated in a range of extra-curricular activities, which include: teaching summer school, after school Tea club and Chinese history and culture classes, as well as actively participating in school Round Square activities and other school events. I always work collaboratively in the school community and involve other faculty members and parents in children’s learning experience.
