SCIS’s first Wellness Week will be celebrated next week, November 13 -17 at both the Lower and Upper School. This will be a fun week promoting the importance of a connected mind, body and spirit for a holistic approach to wellbeing.
Lower School
In Lower School, students will be involved in a variety of activities including kid’s yoga, art therapy, nutrition talks, mindful movement and other activities to learn about mind-body connections. Each day at lunch recess, a professional instructor will coach the Lower School grades in their area of expertise - dance, crossfit, fitness and even boxing! We would love parents to come and join their kids for these activities.
There will be a special parent session in the theatre from Olivia’s House psychologist on Friday 17 November at 12.30pm on kid’s social, emotional and mental wellbeing.
Parents are invited to join in the celebration during their child’s usual lunch recess, grades 2-3 at 12.00-12.20, and grades 4-5 at 11.40-12.20. Each day, all students will be led by an experienced fitness coach on the field and include fitness, boxing, dance and other fun physical activities!
Upper School
The focus will be on the emotional, mental and physical wellbeing of our community. Our goal is to empower students to make healthy changes in their lifestyle and to “BE YOUR OWN HERO”. We plan to have Morning Movement classes each morning including boxing, Chinese traditional line dancing, Tai Chi, yoga and mindfulness.
We have invited an innovative keynote speaker who is a “REAL LIFE HERO” to share her experiences in making changes in her life and community. In addition, we will have two additional speakers focusing on maintaining healthy relationships and self-care.
The ultimate goal is for students to find their unique voice so that they can inspire others to find theirs…. As a super hero would!
