Nord Anglia Education believes strongly that our teachers are the backbone of our organization. When recruiting teachers our focus is “Outstanding Teachers for Outstanding Schools”, Due to our global scale and professional development opportunities, we are able recruit and retain tier one teachers. On average, there are 40 applicants for each teaching job advertised. We have a 1:1 ratio between international and national teachers, with 100% of international teachers from native English-speaking countries. 60% of our teachers have a master’s degree and 50% have more than 10 years of experience.

Teachers at NAS Shenzhen advocate a “holistic education” approach. While pursuing academic achievements, we are also concern with their personal and social development, growth and achievements. Mental health, physical health and academic growth make up the development of the whole student and best prepares them for the future.


In our conversation with Ms. Du Yang, a teacher of the 7th grade, she shared her impression of the unique characters of the bilingual education at NAS Shenzhen.

你是如何在课堂上利用双语教学的优势?


How do you make the best out of a bilingual teaching in classes?

当下的双语学校主要涉及到的是在课堂上中文和英语两种语言教学。英语是世界上使用人数最多的一种语言;中文是世界上拥有最大母语群体的国家,随着信息技术的发展,整个世界的交流也变得越来越频繁,熟练掌握这两种语言就十分重要。


我们的学生在日常的校园生活中被鼓励使用这两种语言,同时课堂上,我们的课程设置中有许多交流包容性的课程,比如小学阶段的IPC和初中阶段的IMYC主题教学,各个学科的老师汇集一堂,针对不同的主题,将不同学科、不同语言穿插在每一天的学习活动中。孩子们在学科学习和主题学习的融汇过程中需要同时使用英文和中文两种语言。而我们的老师来自五湖四海,中籍教师们也都拥有丰富的海外共工作和留学经验,老师们不仅为孩子们的语言学习助力,还能帮助他们了解不同文化视野下的世界,让孩子们拥有更多元的背景,对未来也充满更多包容性。

Currently, bilingual education at NAS Shenzhen refers to the use of both Chinese and English in classes. English is the most spoken language in the world; while Chinese has the largest group of native speakers. With the development of information technology, the world has become increasingly connected, so it is very important to master these two languages.


Students at NAS Shenzhen are encouraged to use these two languages in their daily life. As for the classes, there are many inclusive courses in our curriculum that are supported through our thematic learning across the curriculum and all content. Teachers make sure the learning activities include topics from different subjects and involve both languages. The students need to use both English and Chinese in such thematic learning. The teachers of NAS Shenzhen come from different parts of the world. The Chinese teachers also have extensive working and studying experience overseas. They can help with the students’ language learning, and more importantly, their understanding of the world through different cultural perspectives, so that they can develop a more diverse background and become more broad-minded in the future.

What is unique about NAS?

诺德安达不仅仅只是一个学校而已,在全球范围内,我们一共有66所学校,拥有非常丰富的教育教学资源。孩子们不仅仅是在一个被围墙围住的校园里学习,而是能够通过诺德安达搭建的全球校园学习平台与整个世界相联结。


例如八年级的Eleanor同学在前不久参加了诺德安达集团与联合国儿童基金会合作的艺术大赛。并取得了不错的成绩,获得了在联合国线上展出的机会。诺德安达就是这样用相同的全球性主题实际地将66个校区中的孩子们联系起来,让他们感受到自己是这个地球上真实的一员。因为诺德安达的强大背景可以让孩子们活动在联合国展示自己作品的机会,而同时学生可以在全球平台上看到其它国家和自己同龄的小朋友们的作品,可以看到他们在干什么,拥有真正的世界格局。

Nord Anglia is not just a school. With very rich educational and teaching resources, it boasts a network of 66 schools in 29 countries. The students are not studying on a campus surrounded by walls, but are connected with the whole world through our Global Campus platform.


For example, Eleanor, an eighth grader at NAS Shenzhen, recently participated in an art competition co-organized by the NAS Group and UNICEF. Her work will be exhibited online at the United Nations. Through such global activities, Nord Anglia connects the students in 66 campuses and help them identify themselves as true members of this planet. With the strong resources of Nord Anglia, the students have the opportunity to exhibit their works at the United Nations, and at the same time they can see the works of their peers from other countries. They will know what the others are doing and develop a real global perspective.

对于老师们来说,跨地区跨学科的教学研究时常发生,集团为老师们搭建了诺德安达大学和诺德安达双语学院,老师们在享受教学研究的乐趣的同时还能获得相应的证书。在前不久诺德安达中国区的远程语文教研会上,来自中国14个不同城市的语文老师,汇聚一堂,将老师们的智慧凝结到一起,为老师们的职业成长和孩子们的成长之路添砖加瓦。

For the teachers, cross-regional and cross-disciplinary teaching and research are commonplace. The Nord Anglia Education Group established the Nord Anglia University and Nord Anglia Bilingual College for the teachers, where they can obtain qualification certificates while enjoying the fun of teaching and research. Not long ago at the NAS China Online Chinese Language Teaching and Research Seminar, teachers from 14 different cities in China gathered and pooled their wisdom to search for new paths for the growth of the teachers and the students.



诺德安达和其它学校有和不同?

What is different between Nord Anglia Shenzhen school and other schools? 

我觉得深圳诺德安达学校最大的不同,在于诺德安达在日常的教学活动中采用了学院制,将整个学校分成了:诺Honesty、德Integrity、安Serenity、达Fortitude四个学院。学校不仅仅将学生分入四个学院,在校园中的每一个人老师、员工都参与到其中,让学校成为了一个社区。每一个成员都在自己的日常学习、工作和生活中为自己的学院获得积分,逐渐让诺德安达成为了一个团结、合作、竞争、共同进步的社区。


老师不仅仅是导师,也是学生,老师们自己也时时刻刻从孩子们的身上闪光点找到人生的意义。举个例子,在这个学期,诺德安达深圳校区展开了祥龙阅读挑战赛,孩子们需要通过自己的阅读时长积分换取相应的学院Logo和“龙鳞”,来自安学院的周子路,在前两周的阅读时长积累中换取了160多枚Logo,大约等于在两周里积累了5000分钟左右的阅读时长。作为一名老师,周子路让我看到了那个求知若渴的少年和那一段宁静美好的求学岁月,同时也激发了我的阅读动力。这就是诺德安达的学院制,他不仅仅是将学生们融合到一起,也将老师和同学们共同融合到一起,让学生们更加了解到合作精神,团队精神,竞争精神。

I think what is unique about NAS Shenzhen is that it adopts a college system in its daily management. The school is divided into four houses: Honesty, Integrity, Serenity, and Fortitude. Not only do the students belong to different houses, but all the teachers and workers on the campus are part of a house. So the school becomes a community. Every house member tries to earn credits for his house through his performance in daily study, work and personal conduct. In this way, NAS Shenzhen becomes a community of unity, cooperation, competition and common progress.


Teachers are mentors to the students, but they are at the same time learners. They can always find the meaning of their life in the performance of their students. For example, this semester NAS Shenzhen launched the Xianglong Reading Challenge. The students need to accumulate “reading time” in exchange for NAS logos and "Dragon Scales". In the first two weeks, Steve from the Serenity House, received more than 160 logos, which is equivalent to about 5,000 minutes of reading time. As a teacher, I see in Steve a thirsty teenager that quietly enjoys the beautiful days of schooling, which inspired me to read. This is how the house system of Nord Anglia works. It not only unites the students, but also the teachers, so that they learn more about the spirit of cooperation, teamwork and competition.

你是如何让学生快速融入双语教育适应我们课堂的?

How do you help the students quickly adapt to the bilingual education at NAS Shenzhen?

很多的家长担心,我们的小孩是从其它体制学校转学过来,会不会不适应呢?尤其是语言,上课方式不同等问题。


其实我遇到的许多家长都非常关心这个问题,常常会问我,孩子没办法听懂全英文的授课,在英文课上自信心不足怎么办。首先要相信我们的孩子,他们正处于语言的学习的黄金时期,一定时间的沉浸式学习,他们会很好地适应。另外应该相信我们诺德安达的老师和同学们,我们在这里为他们搭建起了一个安全积极的环境让孩子们愿意尝试,乐于融入。


除了学术环境之外,我们的班级还配备了同时配备了中外教两位班主任,两位老师共同协作,在每一天的课间与孩子们积极交流。在一定时间的适应以后,家长们一定会看到孩子的变化。

Many parents would have doubts when their children are transferred to NAS Shenzhen from other schools: Will they be able to adapt, especially to the language environment and the teaching style?


Yes, many parents I met are concerned about these issues. They would often ask what if their child can't understand the teacher, or if they feel insecure in the English classes. First of all, we must believe in the students. In the golden period of language learning, they will adapt well after a period of immersive learning. In addition, I would ask them to have faith in the teachers and students of Nord Anglia. We have built a safe and positive environment for the students, so they are willing to try and happy to join in.


In addition to the academic environment, in every class there are two head teachers, one Chinese and the other international. They work together and make active communication with the students between the classes every day. Given some time, the students will exhibit positive progress.

深圳校区是一个新鲜的生命,希望我们团队越来越强大,未来一切皆有可能。当我们每一个漫步在这个校园中的人都能在脸上洋溢起幸福的笑容,我希望可以看到我的学生们,都在诺德安达找到自己的人生方向,可以变得更好,当他们走出诺德安达学校的大门,他们带着自己的梦想,以及拥有达到自己梦想的能力。所以我希望我和我们的学生:“今天我们以诺德安达为豪,明天诺德安达以我们为豪。
