SCIS has been committed to the social and emotional well-being of our students and faculty during this difficult period. A group of student support professionals, including school counselors and administrators, has been meeting throughout the school closure to develop systems and supports for our school community.
As students begin arriving on our campuses for the first time, our staff is hard at work ensuring that emotional well-being is monitored and supported. Research indicates that students learn best with strong social and emotional health.
As part of the overall plan to support well-being, SCIS has invited Dr. George Hu, Clinical Psychologist and Mental Health Section Chief at United Family Pudong Hospital, to speak with the parent community about supporting children and adolescents.

A highly experienced medical practitioner, Dr. Hu specializes in individual psychotherapy for adults and children, trauma processing, as well as psycho-educational and psychological assessment. He has already provided support to our faculty by sharing research-based strategies to aid their work in supporting students transition through this next stage. In the upcoming parent presentation, Dr. Hu will discuss how to manage children during this transitional return-to-campus period.
We invite you to attend this presentation virtually by signing up via the QR Code below. (Note: Attendance is on a first-come, first-serve basis, with a maximum of 250 participants).

As students return to campus, it is important to acknowledge our campuses and classrooms will not look the same when they return. Students not able to return to campus will have different feelings and needs. It is equally important that we prepare to support our student’s social and emotional well-being as well as their academic skills; student learning is optimal when they are feeling safe, secure, and connected.
Here are some steps you can take to address some of the uncertainties that lay ahead:
01

02
Give yourself a break.
During stressful times we may not be able to accomplish all we want to (like finish that project or online course). Give yourself permission to adjust expectations for yourself.
03

Reach out to others in need.
Focusing attention on the needs of others can distract from the worries you may be feeling. Plus, it feels really good to help someone else. Remember we are all in this together!

As always, we thank you for the continued support and know that the administration, faculty, and staff of SCIS stand ready to support our community as we collectively transition through to our new normal.
