As SCIS enters its twentieth year in Shanghai, its students are achieving consistently impressive results in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program’s internationally-administered tests. Students take six external examinations over a two-year period, and must achieve a minimum cumulative score of 24 points in order to receive the internationally-recognized I.B. diploma, in addition to the high school diploma which all SCIS graduates use for university admissions purposes.
Ninety-three students of the two Shanghai campuses, Hongqiao and Pudong, were entered for the full IB Diploma, and animpressive 81% of them achieved the pass rate. This is particularly impressive since SCIS does not filter or restrict entry to the IB Diploma Program in order to maintain high school averages. We encourage all students to take the opportunity to enter this challenging program and benefit from it. Our average score for those who achieved the full IB diploma in 2015 was well above the world average, and three of our students scored 40 or higher, including Mikako Numata with a 40, Victor Feng with a score of 41, and Frances Youn, with a score 43 out of 45. We ended up with 16 students at a very commendable 36 or above.
These students have received offers from top universities around the world, including King’s College London, the University of Toronto, the University of Edinburgh, the University of Michigan, McGillUniversity, the University of Hong Kong, and UCLA, all of which rank in the world’s top fifty universities.
These students reached this academic pinnaclewhile participating in an SCIS program that includes a wide range of extra-curricular activities: sports, drama productions, musical events, community service, and many other school activities designed to foster a meaningful and diverse high experience. Their success in this context is a tribute both to their hard work and application, and that of their dedicated and inspiring teachers. Congratulations and best wishes in your future endeavors, SCIS Class of 2015.
