有趣的书展和美妙的学习体验 Book Fair and Author Visit: Nick Arnold

十一月中，我们为孩子们举办了书展活动。所有学生均有机会前往学校图书馆浏览各式各样的书籍，并从中选购喜欢的图书。有许多3D的小说，包括写实的和虚构的，满足各位小读者的需求。学生们可选购图画书或活动书，也可选购经典读物。当孩子们在浏览图书时，发现自己喜欢的作家和书籍时，会非常兴奋。在此，感谢主办方从全球市场上为我们收集最好的图书，并主办了一场非常成功的书展。

与此同时，三至五年级的学生进行了一次美妙的学习体验。我们有幸邀请到《可怕的科学》系列丛书的作者Nick Arnold先生来访我校。Nick先生从事写作二十余年，是《可怕的科学》系列丛书的专家。

Nick先生向孩子们讲解了一系列的科学课题，包括：气压、重力和离心机，并与学生进行了互动交流。学生积极参与实验、回答问题并获得了奖励。他们踊跃参与Nick先生提出的挑战，尽情享受科学之旅。希望此次活动能够进一步激发学生的阅读兴趣，并为培养出未来的科学家播下希望的种子。

养成课堂内外热爱阅读的习惯会终生受益。它能带领孩子畅游知识的海洋，并拓展想象力。我们也会鼓励家长引导孩子们在家阅读这些书籍，并为学生在校期间Red Ted阅读活动增添积分。

In the middle of this month, the children in NACIS Shanghai had the opportunity to visit a Book Fair in our Library. All the students had a chance to browse many kinds of books and buy one especially for themselves. There were many options from 3D books to chapter books, factual to fiction and everything in between. It catered for every type of reader with picture and activity books for the younger readers to the classics for the older children. There was great excitement on all the children’s faces as they browsed through the books and found their favorite authors or genres of books, with many children wanting to bring more money to school the following day to buy more books. This opportunity should be taken to thank the organizers for travelling the world looking for the best books from each country, setting up and running a successful book fair.

Also, during that week, Grade 3, 4 and 5 had an incredible learning experience. They were lucky enough to be visited by Nick Arnold, the world renowned author of the Horrible Science range of books. Nick has been writing his books for over 20 years and is an absolute expert in Horrible Science.

Whilst he was with the children, he taught them about a range of different scientific topics including air pressure, gravity and centrifuge. It was a really interactive show which saw children getting involved with experiments, answering questions and winning prizes. The students really got engaged in the challenges he presented and really enjoyed the scientific journey they were taken on. Hopefully, this experience will have inspired the children reading interest even further and also planted some seeds for some of the worlds’ future scientists!

Reading for pleasure inside and outside of school has real and long-lasting benefits. It unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. We hope parents could encourage the children to read these books at home to get points for their Red Ted reading journals.
