南通诺德安达双语学校教育学监


Shireen Appana的职业生涯遍及全球多个国家,曾在美国纽约联合国国际学校和德国波恩国际学校担任校长。在此之前,她曾在德国担任 IB 课程协调员,在新西兰一所中学担任团队负责人和教师,以及在南非一所著名高中担任语言系主任。她拥有在不同教育环境中的丰富教学和管理经验,具备培养人才和与所有利益相关者密切合作的能力,倡导多元化,接受和提倡变革和创新,能够不断反思和分析我的领导能力,致力于不断探索和终身学习,并坚定支持全面发展追求卓越。



今天我想聊一聊各位家长最关注的问题,南通诺德安达双语学校是如何招聘老师,以确保给我们的学生带来最优质的师资力量。

快速变化中的世界将成为我们生活不可分割的一部分,而这也是我们的学生中学毕业后必须面对的。如何培养他们的能力以应对这个不断变化的世界,对孩子们未来的成功至关重要。他们需要掌握必要的技能、知识、理解力、灵活思维和心态去应对职场。


为了有效地让学生们实现“志在高远”的理念,我们需要有一定水平的教师对他们进行引导,让他们的学习经历更加顺畅,让他们通过探究去发现,有机会提出问题,寻找解决方式并不断创新。

南通诺德安达双语学校教师招聘分为两部分:国际老师和中方教师。


在国际教师招聘方面:诺德安达教育集团每年1月份在伦敦参加OTOS (杰出学校杰出教师)招聘会。这是全球教育界最知名的招聘会,每年都会有众多最优秀的国际教师在这里寻找最好的学校。而诺德安达教育集团,一直是优秀教师所选择的平台,平均每个岗位有超过38位应聘者。对于想要进入我校工作的教师,必须通过我们的严格筛选和背景调查。2019年1月,我将与中方校长孙月梅女士,一同赴伦敦,为南通诺德安达双语学校的学生招聘最优秀的国际教师。


在中方教师招聘方面:我们将面向全国,招聘国内最优秀的中国籍教师。


在所有教师招聘完成后,我们还会把老师送到上海进行统一的职业培训,以确保每一老师都能达到诺德安达教育集团的标准。

成为南通诺德安达双语学校的教师,需要具备哪些资质?


1. 坚持安达励志,志存高远的理念,有热情并致力于满足每位学生的需求。


2. 在工作和生活中具备国际视野,具有跨文化能力和理解力。


3. 珍视并接受中国文化和文化差异,欣赏并尊重南通本地文化。


4. 与学生建立信任关系,享受与年轻人在一起。


5. 具备耐心、同情心和爱心。


6. 拥有丰富学识,对教学充满热情,除了教授相关课程,还能让学生学到很多其他知识,例如带领他们参加课外活动或者协助寄宿学生举办活动。


7. 融入学生、激励学生并能应对掌握第二或第三语言的学生。这就意味着,教师应当有能力随时调整教学方式,以便让学生最大程度融入教学。

Shireen Appana

NAS Nantong International Principal


Shireen’s career spans over many continents in international settings, having worked as a Principal at both the United Nations International School in New York, USA and the Bonn International School In Germany. Prior to that she has held the role of an IB Curriculum Coordinator In Germany, a Team Leader and a teacher at an intermediate school in New Zealand and a Head of Department for Languages at a prominent High School in South Africa. Her vast teaching and learning and administrative experience in varied settings, her ability to grow people and work collaboratively with all stakeholders, celebrate diversity, embrace and initiate change and innovation, constant reflection and analysis of her leadership ability. Shireen’s lifelong commitment to being an inquirer and learner and a strong proponent of excellence at all levels.



In this week’s Principal Writes, I would like to focus on Staff Recruitment at NAS Nantong.

Rapid change will remain an integral part of our lives and this is what our students must face when they graduate from Secondary School. How we equip them to deal with this ever changing world is crucial to their success. They need the necessary skills, knowledge, understanding, flexibility of thought, mindsets to deal with the realities of the workplace.


To effectively prepare our students to be successful in meeting our Be Ambitious Philosophy, we need a certain caliber of teacher to mentor them, to facilitate learning experiences that allow for deep inquiry, investigation, discovery, opportunities to pose questions, find solutions and to innovate.

One of our priorities is the recruitment of outstanding teachers so as to ensure that our students get the best learning experience. We will recruit both International Teachers and Chinese National Teachers.


Nord Anglia Education attends OTOS (Outstanding teachers for Outstanding Schools) each year in London. This is one of the most widely attended fairs and we attract a record number of International teachers, who are interested in working at our schools. More than 38 candidates apply for one position each year. Teachers are well screened and references and background checks are a prerequisite to work in our schools.


We also attend a number of recruitment fairs throughout China in order to find Chinese Teachers who meet our criteria and philosophy.

What are the qualities that will define our teaching faculty at NAS Nantong?


1. Teachers who are Ambitious for themselves and for their students. They are enthusiastic and committed to meeting the needs of every child they teach.


2. Teachers who are internationally-minded, both in and out of work, who have a great deal of intercultural competency and understanding.


3.Teachers who value and accept differences and accept the culture of their host country, China and appreciate and respect the local culture of Nantong.


4. Teachers who develop trusting relationships with their students and enjoy working young people.


5.Teachers who are patient, empathetic, caring.


6. Teachers who are knowledgeable and passionate about their subject and have much to offer beyond just teaching their subject matter, for example teachers who also lead extra -curricular activities, accompany students on outdoor pursuits to develop their leadership skills and who facilitate activities for students in the boarding school.


7. Teachers who have the ability to engage and motivate students and who have the ability to work with second or even third language students. This means having the ability to adapt teaching approaches so as to fully engage our students.


8. Teachers who are dedicated and committed, who have a strong work ethic and the ability to persevere.


9. Teachers who are willing to adapt and adjust to new circumstances and challenges they may face.


10. Teachers with the right personality and attitude, lifelong learners who at the forefront of the latest developments in education

How do we plan to retain our teachers at NAS Nantong?


1. We will support our teachers both personally and at the work level through the initial onboarding process and ensure this continues throughout the year.


2. Cultivating a good school climate that is collaborative, supportive and allows for opportunities for teachers to share their ideas and voice their ideas, is crucial and is one of our key goals at NAS Nantong.


3. We value what teachers bring to the learning experiences for students and the school at large.


4. We provide numerous opportunities for leadership and growth which we do through our Masters Programme at Kings College in London, Professional Development option through Nord Anglia University (NAU), collaborations with our Nord Anglia schools across the board and with MIT and Julliard Programmes.


5. We recruit teachers who are the right cultural fit for our Bilingual Education.


6. We provide excellent Leadership to all our staff.


As the International Principal of NAS Nantong, I will work with our Chinese Principal to contribute to recruit outstanding teachers so as to ensure that our students get the best learning experience.
