【升学喜报】英国方向申请：剑桥、伦敦政经、帝国理工、杜伦...

截至2020年3月12日，我校申请英国方向的36位学生已收获100份offer，还有40份申请尚在等候最终结果。

36 students 100 Offers, with 40 Applications Awaiting Results.

当我们正在翘首期盼美国常规录取的好消息时，不如先祝贺一下今年申请英国方向的36名学生。今年，申请英国的人数比去年翻了一番，而蜂拥而至的offer雨则证实了我们的学生们的优秀与努力。英国的大学信任七德以及我们给出的预估分，这是他们录取学生的关键学术依据。

As we wait for U.S. RD results, it is a good time to celebrate the results for the 36 students who applied to the UK this year. 36 is more than double the amount that applied last year and the large number of great offers from the top universities in UK tells us that our students’ hard work is paying off. UK universities trust our school and importantly trust our predicted grades. Predicted grades is the key academic factor UK colleges use to decide whether or not they will give students offers.

每当家长和学生问我要怎么样才能被剑桥这样的顶尖学府录取时，我总是回答：“首先，你得申请”。然而，许多有能力的学生不愿意或是不敢申请世界最精英的大学，这就导致了他们错失良机。

When students and parents ask how they can get into a top university in like Cambridge, I usually reply, `You have to apply’. Some capable students are reluctant to apply to the world’s most elite universities and as a result never give themselves a chance. 

今年，我校仅有2名学生申请剑桥，其中一人获得了录取。当刘同学在10月30日参加剑桥自然科学考试时，他完全没想到在几周后，他得从忙碌的IB学习中抽身出来，买张飞往英国的机票。在他起飞前，刘同学的几位科学老师忙里抽空为他准备模拟面试。这位安静谦虚的年轻小伙认真努力地完成了所有准备工作，其中还包含一篇关于数学的IB拓展论文。

This year, only two students applied to Cambridge from our school and one was given an offer. When William Liu took his Natural Science Cambridge exam October 30th, he had no idea that a few weeks later, during the busiest month of his IB studies, he would be purchasing an airplane ticket for England. He had done well enough on the Cambridge exam to be invited to a series of admissions interviews with Cambridge professors. Before he took off for England, a group of William’s science teachers took time out of their busy schedules and got together and gave him a mock interview. Other than that, William, a quiet, humble young man, relied on his hard work to get him through the process.  The preparation included an IB Extended Essay about Mathematics.

除了超高的学术分数，牛津和剑桥还看重有深度的、能体现学生学术兴趣的相关活动。刘同学曾担任粒子物理大师课堂的助教，还参加了伦敦世界青年科学论坛。最后，要想被剑桥录取，他还需要在一系列面试中通过回答并解决有关自然科学的问题，来给教授们留下深刻印象。

Oxford and Cambridge, along with top academic scores, also expect students to have an in-depth activity related to their academic interests. William was a teaching assistant for a particle physics master class and attended the London International Youth Science Forum. In the end, to receive the offer from Cambridge, he needed to impress the professors with a series of interviews which included questions about Natural Science and problems for him to solve and discuss during the interview process. 

方同学的选择极具IB精神，他申请了伦敦政治经济学院的哲学和经济专业，该专业融合了人文与数学。而数学（高级水平）和经济（高级水平）同时获得IB满分7分，仅仅是申请伦敦政经的底线。方同学的IB拓展论文主题为NGO组织，特别探讨了克林顿基金会是否完全符合伦理道德。这个论文主题很好地展现出他对商业道德与政治伦理的兴趣，也为他选择的哲学和经济专业做了铺垫。

In the true spirit of the IB, Fred Fang applied to the London School of Economics, to study Philosophy and Economics; a course which combines humanities and math. To even be considered for LSE a student needs to be earning 7 in HL Math and HL Economics. Fred wrote his IB Extended Essay on the topic of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and specifically whether the Clinton Foundation was a purely ethical foundation. It is a topic that demonstrated his interest in the ethical side of business and politics, a topic that is good preparation for his course of Philosophy and Economics at LSE.  

看一看伦敦政经的杰出校友，你会发现有许多国家首脑：给新加坡带去经济腾飞的李光耀，加拿大、意大利、肯尼亚、英国的总理；还有许多在金融和工业中的领头羊。方同学将有机会加入他们，这真令人振奋。

If you look at the distinguished alumni of LSE, you will find many Head’s of State like Lee Kuan Yew who is credited with the economic miracle of Singapore, Prime ministers of Canada, Italy, Kenya, and the UK as well has leaders in finance and industry. Fred Fang will have an opportunity to join share in this wonderful legacy.

王同学是唯一一个收到无条件录取的学生。要知道，与美国不同，英国学校大都是有条件录取，要求学生必须在IB大考和雅思中达到一定分数，才会发出真正的录取通知书。爱丁堡大学对王同学一定是青睐有加，才会不要求提交最终IB成绩就录取了他。以我的经验来看，英国的无条件录取一般都只给SAT高分的学生，比如王同学在申请时就提交了他SAT 1和SAT 2的分数。

Derek Wang distinguished himself as being the only student to receive an unconditional offer. Whereas conditional offers require students to get certain scores on the IB exams and IELTS, an unconditional offer is more like U.S. admissions. Edinburgh was so pleased with Derek’s application that they have accepted him without IB test requirements. In my experience, unconditional offers are most likely to be given when a student submits strong SAT scores.  Derek submitted SAT 1 and SAT 2 scores for his UK applications.   

七宝德怀特的一个优势在于，即使你的预估分相比同校同学来说不算高，也能被英国的顶尖大学录取。原因之一是，英国大学知道我们的预估分比较靠谱，收到offer的七德学生一般都能在IB大考中达到甚至超过分数线。

One of our strengths as a school is that even students who have low predicted grades compared to their classmates get offers from top universities in the UK. One reason for this is that UK universities know our predicted grades are reliable and the students they give offers to will usually meet or exceed the offer on the actual IB exam. 

我校学生目前成功申请的专业数不胜数，有经济、生物、哲学、神经科学、电影、物理、宗教、艺术、数学、建筑等一切你能想到的学术领域。2年后，我们的首批A-Level学生也将开始申请大学，让我们拭目以待！

The variety of courses that our students have successfully applied to is dazzling. From Economics to Biology, Philosophy, Neuroscience, Film Studies, Physics, Religion, Art, Mathematics, Architecture and pretty much other academic area you can think of.  This year’s students all used the IB to apply. In two years our first A-Level students will apply to universities and we can expect even more exciting offers.
