Primary School
The overall theme of Primary Eco Week this year is 'Bye Bye Waste', and the cohort themes are:
Year 1 - Waste and the Environment
Year 2 - Waste and Animals
Year 3 - Deforestation
Year 4 - Waste and Corporate Social Responsibility
Year 5 - Renewable Energy
The Eco Fair Committee of the Primary School utilized mobile app which allows the students to record every bit of improvement in the environment, so that everyone can learn more environmental protection:

I happened to see an empty bottle on the road as I was walking along and so I picked it up and threw it away in this waste bin.

The zipper on my school bag broke but it can still be used if I hold it closed with a paper clip. This way, I don't need to spend money to buy a new one, which is unnecessary since the bag is in perfectly good shape.

My mom took the coffee grounds they gave us at the cafe and put them in little bags in the refrigerator to prevent odors.

Go home with my brother on foot. Low-carbon transportation!

Sometimes a little bit of environmental friendliness goes a long way. As I head out, I am bringing a cloth bag for grocery shopping, and I will walk to the store instead of going by car.

The great thing about hand-me-downs is that they have both sentimental value and are environmentally friendly. That's what makes them beautiful; it doesn't matter if they aren't the latest fashions. In this photo you can see I am wearing the scarf my mother wore when she was little and my mom is wearing a coat that belonged to my grandmother.

The Primary School Environmental Week began April 8, focusing on these themes with a rich variety of activities.
Upper Primary presentation by the Eco Warriors to announce Eco Week and discuss waste targets.
The trash bot visited classrooms to calculate how much waste each class produces.
The PTA organized a 5-day reduce waste challenge for students to complete at home.
Cohort-based learning activities during character education classes and ET Times.
Eco Fair: Saturday Eco Fair organized by the PTA.
At the end of Eco Week, students presented the results of the different projects they worked on an informal discussion forum focused on environmental awareness. At the forum, students from different years had the chance to exchange ideas about how to think and act green.

Middle School
Eco Week lasts two weeks at the Middle School. Over this two-week period, students of each year complete different tasks and deliver group presentations on the last day. Most interestingly, on Earth Day (April 22) students didn't have to wear their usual uniforms. Instead, they were encouraged to wear blue, green and yellow clothing made of recycled materials.

Over the two-week period, Year 6 students turn used or idle objects into works of art, and use posters to introduce and present their works. In fact, there are many ways to reuse everyday items if you are creative. For instance, a used milk carton can become a flower pot for a plant. An old cereal box can be turned into a puzzle, and dried flowers or leaves can serve as all-natural bookmarks. Inspired by the teachers, the students made a wide variety of innovative products with items that normally would end up in the trash.

Innovative Products of Y6 Students
Year 7 students have a task called "Writing with Questions" in which they are divided into small groups, conduct research-based learning on an item in their life, and complete the article based on what they have learned. These items can be bottled water, old books, household appliances, express delivery packets and boxes, kitchen waste oil, cosmetics, medical syringes, flowers from wedding and birthday parties.
1. Where do the things we buy come from?
2. How many resources are needed for making these items? What effect does that have on the environment?
3. How are these things delivered to customers?
4. Where do they go after they have been used?
5. Do you have any creative ideas to reuse these used items?

Articles of Y7 Students
High School
The student group Green Origin organized the Green Week event on the Songjiang campus, including a green charity sale, a “Spring” themed photography contest, a tree house decoration competition, an old clothes donation, a cafeteria lights out (turning off the lights in the school cafeteria to save energy), and more. This event was a fun and creative way to raise environmental awareness in the Pao community.
Green SALE
The students held two events, Green Sale and Free Flea Market, in the school cafeteria, during which they encouraged the donation of secondhand items still in good condition. Conserving resources boosts environmental protection.

Flee Market
Cafeteria Lights Out & Clothing Donation
During the Eco week, lights were turned off in the school cafeteria, to allow better appreciation of natural light sources as well as saving energy.

In addition, led by the Green Origin team, Songjiang teachers and students collected old clothing to be donated to the Flying Ant team for reuse. They installed a dedicated recycling bin at the entrance of the library, a busy foot traffic hub where everyone was sure to see it. The event was quite well received: In just one week's time, more than one box of items were collected.

Teachers, parents and students need to be ready and able to face change that comes at us from all sides. It is almost a pre-conditional skill for surviving in the 21st century world. The global threats to the environment, the challenges of AI, and the emergence terrorism of are just three of the major issues that our students will have to face as they grow. Our job is to help them develop the skills and understanding to address the realities of our changing world.
