With 18 years of teaching experience, Ms. Wang once worked in a famous school in Shanghai. She has profound insights into different teaching systems and education methods.
As the only reviewer in mainland China, she participates in reviewing the related books of IB issued by Cambridge university press.
Two of her students won the fist place in IGCSE Chinese exam across the world.

What subject do you teach and what are the main points?
我主要教授六年级的中文课,这是上海六年级学生使用部颁教材的第二年。我最关注学生对“大语文”概念的培养,立足于课本,但不仅仅局限于课本,语文学习对孩子们们来说既是语言的学习又是文化和传统的学习。

I mainly teach grade 6 students Chinese and this is the second year that Grade 6 students use the textbook compiled by the education ministry. I am most concerned about the cultivation of the "Chinese language" concept, which is based on the textbook, but not limited to the textbook.

在双语教育中,如何通过教学来帮助孩子深耕母语文化?
In bilingual education, how to help students cultivate their native culture?
双语教育中,深耕母语文化尤为重要。在NACIS ,我们通过语文学科知识的学习、中华传统文化的渗透、历史典故的讲解、传统风俗、及节日的浸入式教育来彰显母语特色。
比如,我们会在教室布置中让孩子沉浸在中国文化的氛围中,我们的教室里有学生的中国画、毛笔作品,有剪纸、有诗词、还有学生自行建立的图书角,里面有各类中文书籍,涵盖文学、科学、科幻等方面。
作为一所双语学校,我们也很注重中西文化的融合与对照:我们会在圣诞节与春节这样的中西传统节日中通过教室布置、演讲、和老师一起过节的形式来向同学传递中西文化中共有的“团聚、家庭”的价值观;但同时我们也会对不同的文化进行对照与展示,比如我们会在节日习俗、食品与布置上来激发同学们对不同的文化的思考与感悟。
让孩子在真实情境中产生对不同文化的理解与认知能够帮助他们在将来成为“走得出去、也回得来”的未来人才。

It is particularly important to deeply cultivate the culture of mother tongue in bilingual education. At NACIS Shanghai, we highlight the characteristics of our mother tongue through the study of Chinese subject knowledge, the penetration of traditional Chinese culture, the explanation of historical allusions, and the immersion of traditional customs and festivals.
For example, we will enable our students to immerse in the atmosphere of Chinese culture through classroom layout. In our classroom, there are Chinese paintings, Chinese brush works, papercuts, poems, and a book corner with all kinds of Chinese books set up by students, covering literature, science, science fiction and other aspects.
As a bilingual school, we also pay great attention to the integration and comparison of Chinese and western cultures. During the traditional Chinese and western festivals such as Christmas and Spring Festival, we will convey the values of "reunion and family" shared by both Chinese and western cultures to students through classroom layout, speeches and spending festivals together. However, we also compare and demonstrate different cultures. For example, we will stimulate students' thinking and perception of different cultures in festival customs, food and layout.
Allowing students to develop an understanding and awareness of different cultures in real situations can help them become talents who are able to “go abroad and come back" in the future.

从小学5年级升6年级是一个很重要的过渡阶段,你们会采取哪些措施帮助学生顺利、平稳地过渡?
It is an important transition period moving from grade 5 to grade 6. What measures will you take to help students make a smooth and smooth transition?
五年级到六年级是非常重要和关键的过渡阶段,能否很快地进入中学的学习状态关键看这一年。我们会在五年级的孩子正式升入六年级之前,请六年级学生会的同学先进入五年级班级跟学弟学妹们分享一下不一样的中学生活,相关老师也会进入教室介绍课程;在孩子们进入六年级后,会通过年级集中校会、学生会选举等帮助学生进行平稳过渡。

The transition from grade 5 to grade 6 is a very important and critical stage. It is the year that decide whether students can embrace secondary learning life. We will invite grade 6 students to share secondary life with grade 5 students before they are transferred to grade 6. Relevant teachers will also introduce the secondary courses for them. After the students enter grade 6, we will help them to make a smooth transition through grade assembly, student union election, etc.

在教学上,您觉得会为学生带来什么?
In terms of teaching, what do you think will be brought to students?
在教学上我会给孩子们带与小学不同的中文课体验,包括增强课程的难度、广度和深度;在课堂中补充相关的历史文化知识,创意写作、中文班刊、电子书创建、班长负责制、阅读创意手册、经典古诗文拓展等等,从而实现多角度、多维度的大语文教学。我也会根据每个孩子自身的情况来制定不同的学习要求,去激发每一个孩子的潜能。

In terms of teaching, I will give students the experience of Chinese classes different from that of primary Chinese classes through enhancing the difficulty, breadth and depth of the lessons. In the class, I will supplement the relevant historical and cultural knowledge, creative writing, Chinese class magazine, the creation of e-books, monitor responsibility system, reading creative manuals, classical ancient poetry and prose development, in order to achieve a multi-angle, multi-dimensional language teaching. I will also formulate different learning requirements based on every student’s situation and inspire the potential of each student.

As a teacher in the bilingual school, how do you cooperate with your international partner?
和外方搭档的合作在双语教学中非常重要。我们一言一行对孩子们世界观的建立有着潜移默化的影响。因此,双语环境的创建,东西方文化及观念的融合将带给学生最切身的示范与体验,为成为一个国际人才做好充足的铺垫。

It is very important to cooperate with the international partner during the bilingual teaching. Our word and action have a subtle effect on how our students develop their world view. Therefore, the creation of a bilingual environment and the integration of eastern and western cultures and concepts will bring students the most personal demonstration and experience and lay a solid foundation for them to become international talents.
