23年前,我在英国伯明翰做为一名体育老师开启了我的教师生涯,并担任体育教研组负责人。如今,体育教学对于学生而言比以往更加重要了。根据世界卫生组织的数据,5岁以下儿童体重超标或肥胖达4100万,5-19岁的儿童和青少年体重超标或肥胖超过3.4亿。我们倡导在学校营造身心健康的文化,这非常重要。约翰·肯尼迪曾说:“身体素质不仅是成就健康体魄的重要因素,还是进行有活力、有创造力的智力活动的基础。”

在我的小学时代,一位优秀的体育老师—— Bennett先生让我爱上了体育和运动。我曾经参加过橄榄球和曲棍球的郡级比赛,还在迪拜率领阿联酋哈伊马角队参加7人制橄榄球比赛,并获得过十特尔(Ten Tors)挑战赛金奖。我一直保持着定期健身的习惯,享受运动带来的乐趣和健康体魄。经常参加体育活动让我变成更加全面发展的人,我变得更加自信谦和,也因此收获了许多绵长一生的友谊。

1、提高身体素质


体育锻炼有助于预防肥胖和高血压,运动燃烧卡路里产生能量,锻炼肌肉张力,增加柔韧性和力量,还可以增强骨骼,让它健康生长。







2、培养运动能力


良好的运动控制能力有助于学生探索周围的世界,也有助于他们的认知发展。体育锻炼能够增强大肌肉群运动能力(如:与腿部和胳膊等大肌肉相关的运动)和小肌肉群运动能力(如:与手部和腕部等的小肌肉相关的运动)。






3、学会自律


- 参加有组织运动的学生明显更自律,上课也更加专注。体育运动具有自身特性,让人对于团队或特定团体很有归属感,有共同的目标,有助于学生理解遵守规则和履行责任的重要性。

- 有利于学生培养对于自身健康的责任感。






4、培养道德品格、领导力和团队协作能力


体育有着独特的道德和风尚。同时,作为运动队或运动俱乐部的一员,运动教会学生对于彼此的责任感。制定团队目标、策略,激励团队成员培养出色的可转移的领导能力,这有助于学生与他们的队友和同学建立互相尊重的关系。






5、学会一种有效的减压和释放焦虑的方式


压力大的学生如果没有时间减压,就无法集中精力学习。体育活动能够给与他们释放压力的环境。通过锻炼和深呼吸,我们吸入肺里更多空气,进而为大脑提供更多的氧气,这样会让大脑放松和减压。积极锻炼的人更有可能健康快乐,这让他们成为更出色的学生。他们往往会为自己感到自豪、对自己感到满意,对待同学也很友善。






6、增强社交能力


学生参加体育运动可以与其他同学建立良好的关系,学习如何互动、互相尊重和合作。这让学生更加自信、更善于社交,并且让他们能够建立更大的社交圈。






7、增强自信和自尊


体育对学生的另一个好处是增强他们的自信和自尊。任何体育运动都需要这些。学生参加竞技体育,比如跑步、乒乓球、篮球和游泳,你可以向他们展示达成目标的价值,并且增进他们的信心和表现。






8、学会设定目标


如果学生想要培养自律的品格,明确目标很重要。实现目标后,他/她就可以直接看到不懈努力后的成果。体育让学生知道如何用有趣积极的方式,努力达成目标,从而培养他们的自信和自尊。






9、提高学习成绩


所有的研究都显示,体育活动对于学生的认知能力、态度和学习行为都会产生积极影响,所有这些都是提高学习成绩的重要因素,这其中还包括提高注意力和改善课堂表现。学生定期参加体育活动有助于提高学习成绩。

I started my teaching career over 23 years ago as a physical education (PE)teacher and Head of PE in Birmingham, England. Today it is even more importantthan ever that students in school participate in physical education. With ‘41million children under the age of 5 overweight or obese and over 340 millionchildren and adolescents aged 5-19 overweight or obese’ (World Health Organization) it is imperative that we foster aculture of health, wellbeing and fitness in our schools. “Physical fitness isnot only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is also the basisfor dynamic and creative intellectual activity” (John F Kennedy).

My love for PE and sport began when I was at Primary school and taught byan amazing PE teacher called Mr. Bennett. I have played rugby and hockey atcounty level, captained the Ras Al Khaimah emirate (UAE) rugby 7s side inthe Dubai 7s, completed the Ten Tors gold and enjoy going to the gym regularly.Regularly taking part in physical activity has made me a much more roundedperson. I have made lifelong friendships and have become a confident andrespectful person.

1、Improved physical fitness


PE helps prevents obesity and high blood pressure. It burnscalories to create extra energy. It develops muscle tone, flexibility andstrength. It also strengthens bones and cartilage for healthy growth.






2、Skill and motor skills development


Having good motor control helps children explore the worldaround them and also helps with their cognitive development. PE increase grossmotor skill development (movements related to large muscles such as legs, arms,etc) and fine motor skill development (movements involving smaller musclegroups such as those in the hand and wrist).





3、Teaches self-discipline



- Children who play structured sports are identifiably betterat following instructions and remaining focused in the classroom. There issomething specific to the sporting environment, the unique sense of belongingto a team to a special group with a common goal that helps children understandthe importance of respecting the rules and honouring responsibilities.


- Facilitatesdevelopment of student responsibility for health and fitness






4、Influence moral development,leadership,cooperation with others

Working as part of a sports team or club teachesresponsibility towards one another. Developing team goals, strategies andmotivating team members all build excellent transferable leadership skills. Ithelps students to respect their teammates and classmates.





5、Stress ruduction-an outlet release tension and anxiety


Stressed students are not able to concentrate and focus ontheir academic performance if they are not allowed time to de-stress. Physicalactivities give them an environment to breathe out their stress. By exercisingand breathing deeply, we provide extra air to our lungs which in turn providesmore oxygen to the brain, this makes the brain feel relaxed and stress free. Aphysically active individual is more likely to be happy and healthy, whichmakes them a better student in the classroom. They often feel proud and happyabout themselves and are good towards their fellow students.





6、Strengthened peer relationships



When students participate in PE and sport they build positiverelationships with other students, learning how to interact, respect and workwith others. This creates students who are more confident and socially activeand allows them to build greater friendship groups.



7、Improve self-confidence and self-esteen


Another way that PE contributes to student health is that itincreases both confidence and self-esteem in children. Performing in any sportrequires these skills. When children participate in athletic challenges, suchas running, table tennis, basketball and swimming, you can show them the valueof accomplishing goals and boosting their confidence and performance.



8、Experience in setting goals


Having goals to aim for are essential if a child is todevelop their self-discipline and when goals are achieved the student gets tosee first-hand the cause and effect of voluntarily sticking with their efforts.PE teaches students how to work hard to achieve their sporting goals andtargets in a fun and positive way, promoting their self-confidence andself-esteem.



9、Improved academics

All research points to the fact that physical activity has apositive impact on cognitive skills and attitudes and academic behavior, all ofwhich are important components of improved academic performance. These includeenhanced concentration and attention as well as improved classroom behavior.When students are involved inregular physical education activities this also leads to improved grades andstandardized test scores.
