He was previously head of curated content, deputy editor of the big read section, pharmaceuticals correspondent, and a foreign correspondent in France and Russia.

HARD-HITTING JOURNALISM IN A CLICKBAIT WORLD

作为一名新闻工作者,Andrew Jack认为创造性是刺激新想法的产生,是人们走出舒适区,走向那些能够迸发创意火花的东西。他同意艺术和创造力比政治更能改变社会。因为它是自发的、个人的,往往一个人就能够驱动,又往往直捣需要改变或改革的问题。
Andrew拥有强大的教育背景。他曾在剑桥大学就读地理专业,同时开始做学生记者的工作。毕业后又获得了哈佛大学一年的研究生奖学金,便去了哈佛,也是在那里他决心留在美国并从事新闻工作。对于还在求学的孩子们,他建议大家要努力学习,不仅学习课堂上的知识,更要竭尽所能去接触一切与未来发展相关的东西。
在本期节目里,Andrew还与大家分享了关于这个凭数字说话的时代,给新闻工作者创造了怎样的机会?以及《金融时报》的盈利模式为什么是通过收费订阅,而不是单纯依靠广告和赞助?

As a journalist, Andrew Jack thinks that creativity is about stimulation and development of new ideas. It is leaving one’s comfort zone to the things that may spark new ideas. He believes that art and creativity may change society faster than politics could, and creativity is spontaneous and individualistic, and can be driven by one single person. And it can be on the leading edge to the issues that need to be changed or reformed.
Andrew has a strong education background. He studied in the University of Cambridge in Geography, where he did a student journalism. Then he received an opportunity to have a Fellowship in Harvard for 1 year, which inspired him to stay in the US and work as a journalist. He advises students to work hard not only in the classrooms, but to use the maximum range of opportunities to approach what would be relevant to the next stage of life.
In this episode, Andrew also shared his opinion on the opportunities for journalists when nowadays the news are presented digitally, and why the Financial Times has a paywall to its readers instead of monetizing it through advertising and sponsorships.
Financial Times has a FT schools programme, which is led by Andrew, to offer their high-quality contents to students aged 16-19, their schools and teachers.
