八年级英语辩论赛之夜 Grade 8 English Debate Night

日落前的最后一抹余晖照进教学楼，洒在了每一张选手的脸庞上，有的神态自若，有的眉头紧锁，有的在与同伴们做最后的斟酌，他们的目标对象都只有一个——晚上的辩论赛。

The last of the sunlight verged into the teaching building and sprinkled on the face of each contestant. They were all busy preparing for the Debate Night with their teammates. A common goal had bound them closely together. And the atmosphere began to tense…

5月23、24日，万源协和的八年级同学们迎来了他们初中生涯第一场以年级为单位的大规模英语辩论赛，本次的辩题是“世界上最伟大的发明”。开始之前，报告厅内就座无虚席，家长们纷纷驻足于此，期待着各式各样的发明之间擦出绚烂的火花。

The Debate Night of Grade 8 on “the greatest invention in the world” was held on May 23rd and 24th. Teachers, students and parents are all looking forward to it since it’s the first English debate in the Middle School. Witnessing the great event, everyone was impressed and encouraged. The contestants received the best reward ever –praise and applause.

在一个多月的准备时间内，从辩题的选择，到资料准备，再到组成辩论小组，班内模拟辩论，每一步都汇聚了老师和同学们的辛勤付出与努力，只为能在辩论之夜上大放异彩。

It took more than one month to prepare for the big night, from choosing the topic, collecting the materials, organizing the teams to practicing. Every student and teacher made great efforts to make it happen and shine.

本次辩论赛采取的是积分制。第一轮是各个辩论小组按照老师分配的对手，带着家长到四楼各个“分会场”进行小组辩论。每个“分会场”中都坐着一位英语老师作为裁判，他们要根据各个小组辩论时的表现进行打分，最终选出得分最高的两个小组到报告厅进行终级辩论，决出总冠军。

即使在分会场，比赛也是如火如荼。在辩手们的激昂论述中，钟表，网上支付，衣服，手机……各种看似毫无关联的发明，巧妙地融合在一起，脱口而出的流利英文让与会者感受到了辩手们为此次辩论付出的汗水和心血，看到了他们的成长。

终极辩论更是精彩纷呈。角逐冠军的小组要临时建立论点，准备资料，这些都得益于平时打下了良好的基础，双方辩手们在聚光灯下的表现都很出色，丝毫没有怯场，把一个月以来的学习成果表现得淋漓尽致。自由辩论环节，尤为精彩，双方四辩争锋相对，妙语连珠，引得场下掌声不断，场面好不热闹。

The Debate adopted the points system. The final match was between the winners of all previous matches in an elimination tournament. The straight two nights were full of brilliant ideas, convincing evidence, eloquent speeches…

What a battle of wits!

What a feast of mind!

All the hard work paid off.

是比赛就有胜负，有人因拿到冠军而欣喜若狂，有人因失利而暗自落泪。其实，辩论赛的目的不是为了决出 “辩论冠军”，而是为了培养我们思维的灵活性，为以后的人生中各个关卡打好基础。结果固然重要，但过程更值得珍惜，感谢老师们的精心设计和耐心指导，让我们有了这次难得的体验。

It’s the game that wins and loses. The champion should be praised and the others encouraged. The purpose of the debate is to cultivate the flexibility of thinking and lay a solid foundation for the future. That’s why the process is more valuable. Do appreciate to ourselves, teachers and parents.

将随着辩论赛的结束，八年级即将到达尾声，许多学生将会离开协和，走向不同的人生道路，就让我们带着在协和种种活动中收获的成长与经验，秉承着一颗赤子之心，在今后的人生道路上一往无前，越战越勇！

Though the Debate Night was yesterday, we are still fighting for today and tomorrow. Our knowledge and experiences gained from school will build a ladder to enable us to climb up high in the near future. Move forward!
