The Music program at SDA is built on learning music through performance, listening and creating. While we have been temporarily unable to perform music, students have been able to express their creativity through musical compositions. Here are some of the best work submitted by the IGCSE Music students.

In my composition, it’s a ternary piece and I used C minor pentatonic to create a joyful mood then switch to C minor to turn into a sad mood then switch to the minor pentatonic. I chose piccolo because the sharp voice sounds like a bird and it can help me to build a happy scene in my section A. The violin, viola and the cello crossed together to make a strong and heavy mood in section B. The slow tempo also increase the sadness so it means some bad thing is happening. By a solo piccolo part, it means the things are getting better. And back to the section A, that everything is back to the usual and we were getting over the bad thing. I’m not good at naming so I named it Be Stronger.

I wanted to show thoughts about missing and waiting in this composition. About choosing instruments, I used string instruments (violin, viola, cello) because they are more suitable for the theme of the composition. I used many ‘mp’ (moderately soft dynamics) to give a silent state which can show loneliness as many people insist on waiting although they feel negative.
