Thomas在高中毕业后就获得了埃克塞特大学得体育和户外教育国家文凭,本科毕业于英国朴次茅斯大学应用运动科学专业,并获得了该校教育研究生资格证书(PGCE)。他热爱户外运动教学和海洋类运动,是一位擅长帮助激发学生潜能的老师,拥有四年多的教学经验。

 

在Thomas的班级里,孩子们都有着出色的学习表现和长足的进步。在教学上,他坚信,给孩子营造一个平等有序,激发潜能的学习环境,让孩子们能最大限度地发挥他们的潜力,建立自信,勇敢地迎接挑战。Thomas在英国Rydon小学任教期间,一直教授地理和可持续发展课程,并组织学生参与“生态委员会”活动,如“太阳周”和“浪费周”,让孩子们学有所用,不仅学会对学校环境负责,还能认识到更广泛的全球环境问题。

您怎样理解双语教育?

Thomas我相信双语教育对任何人来说都是一个极好的机会。学习另一种语言可以更好地为孩子的将来做准备。双语教育还可以帮助孩子加深对他人的理解,建立跨越沟通障碍的信心,在平常的语言学习中融合对多元文化的理解。

对新学年的教学有什么计划?


Thomas激发学生的学习动力和帮助学生融入到课堂教学中来是我每天坚持奋斗的目标。我相信正是这些目标促使我在确保每个孩子都能在学有所成的同时享受学习和教育带来的快乐。我是一位充满活力和创新精神的老师,在我的课上,我努力让所有孩子都参与到我的课堂教学中来,为他们之后取得优异的学习成绩打下坚实的寄出。我会为学生的学习创造一个充满挑战的学习环境,让孩子们有信心去面对挑战,让他们不会害怕犯错和失败,并把错误和失败视为学习和进步的机会。我希望通过每天的课堂教学,为孩子们在应对未来激烈的竞争的时候做好准备。


我相信,给孩子们更多的时间和机会去探索课外的世界,有利于他们发展自己未知的技能和能力,建立自信和自尊。居住旅行和课外俱乐部是一种很好的方式来帮助孩子们成长,给他们创造这样的活动机会也一直是我作为教师的重要目标。

您在亚洲工作生活多长时间了?是什么吸引您决定前来中国任教?有什么特别的经历可以跟我们分享吗?

Thomas来宁波执教,是我第一次踏上亚洲的土地。中国是一个非常重视教育,文化和生活质量的国度,我自己也很希望能够体验东方文化。我曾在欧洲的很多地方旅行,体验不同的城市已经成为了我的爱好。我最近访问了都柏林、布达佩斯、哥德堡和纽约。

对于在双语环境下教学,您会怎么和外方老师合作呢?

Thomas团队合作和沟通是至关重要的,我觉得,三人行,必有我师。拥有不同生活体验的人总是可以互相传授新的东西。所有的老师都是学校大家庭的一个重要组成部分,大家相互沟通交流并朝着同一个方向努力,将会让学生们融入到我们知识丰富、内容有趣的双语课程中。我期待成为这个充满活力的团队的一份子,各抒己见,从善如流。

Thomas gained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Sports Science and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Plymouth. He completed a National Diploma in Sport in Outdoor Education at Exeter College when he graduated from secondary school. Thomas is passionate about outdoor education as well as specialised in marine based sports. He likes helping students achieve their potential and has more than four years teaching experience at primary school.

 

In Thomas’s class, he has an excellent track record as a teacher in achieving progression of all the children. His belief is that children maximise and reach their potential in a stimulating learning environment that is accessible to all, places no ceiling, elicits self-confidence and encourages children to greet challenges with determination. When he was teaching in Rydon Primary School in the UK, he led the subject of Geography and Sustainability throughout the school. As well as implementing an Ecology Council which served as a fantastic way to empower the children to take responsibility for their school environment and gain an awareness of wider global issues. The Eco Council led many successful whole schools’ campaigns such as Solar week and Waste week.

What made you want to work at NACIS?

Thomas: Nord Anglia schools have a world class reputation and I feel incredibly proud to be part of this global community. Nord Anglia schools believe in inspiring the individual to fulfill their potential, be ambitious and determined to succeed. This philosophy resonates with my own and I am looking forward to contributing to school life, here in Ningbo!

What is your understanding of bilingual education?

ThomasI believe bilingual education to be a fantastic opportunity for anyone. Learning another language will better prepare children for the future. It will instil understanding of others, the confidence to cross barriers of communication and ultimately bring cultures together.


Q

What do you plan to bring to the school? What is your goal for your students this year?


ThomasMotivation and commitment are both characteristics which I strive towards on a daily basis to bring to the school environment. It is these attributes that I believe drive me to go that extra step in ensuring every child learns and makes good progress whilst having fun and enjoying their education. I am an energetic and innovative teacher who strives for pupil involvement and high levels of achievement from all children in my lessons. I like to create a learning environment where children are confident to take risks and see mistakes as an opportunity to learn. My lessons are intended to teach in context and real life scenarios to prepare the children for the modern world.


It is my belief that giving children moments to develop outside of the classroom and a chance to explore and develop skills and abilities which they previously have been unaware of has a direct correlation with their confidence and self-esteem. Residential trips and extra-curricular clubs serve as a fantastic way to work on these attributes and creating these opportunities has always formed an important part of my role as a teacher.

How long have you been working in Asia / What made you decided to move to China? What was your best experience about studying working / studying / travelling abroad?

ThomasThis is my first time in Asia! I craved a completely new experience in a place where quality of life, culture and education is truly valued and China prioritises these aspects! Prior to moving to China, I have enjoyed travelling to many places in Europe and experiencing different locations has become a passion of mine. I have recently visited the cities of Dublin, Budapest, Gothenburg and New York.


Q

How would you make the most of the differences in culture?

Thomas: Teamwork and communication is vital and I feel everyone can learn something from someone else! Different people from various backgrounds can always teach each other something new. Forming part of a community and pulling in the same direction will create an effective, rich and exciting bilingual curriculum that will engage the children. I am looking forward to being part of a dynamic team, embracing ideas from others and sharing my own.
