尽管还未正式开学,我校中外方校长Walsh先生、陈杰妮女士及副校长Dumble先生仍按原计划举行了升旗仪式并向各位疫情期间坚守岗位的安保人员送上慰问物资。


Despite that the school has not yet officially opened,our Cp-Principals David Walsh,Jenny Chen and vice pricipal Mr Dumble held the flag-raising ceremony as planned. They also show our gratitude to the security staff who remained at their posts during the outbreak.

SUIS-Gubei Principal - 陈杰妮女士


亲爱的同学们,大家好!疫情期间,你们都宅在家做贡献,真的很了不起。孩子们都是生性好动的,即便是高中生也不例外。然而这一次你们却做到了全体宅家,这对成年人来讲也是巨大的挑战,更何况是正处于青少年生长发展期的你们!感同身受、分享思考,我想我们的挑战大致来自于以下三个方面:


Hello my dear SUIS-Gubei students! You all stay at home during the outbreak. That's really something! Children are naturally active, even high school students are no exception. However, this time you have made your own contribution against the virus by staying at home, which is also a great challenge for adults, not to mention being at a key growth and development stage in your life. In this letter, I would like talk about the three challenges we are facing now.


第一个挑战:在家学习,没有了老师按部就班的指导,对于时间的掌控就全靠你们自己了,应对这个挑战我们需要进行独立思考。比如:在根据线上课表进行学习时,我们一天的作息是否可以从浏览当日课表开始,先确立老师有否直播的邀请,定下这个时间,以免错过。然后可以根据课表上任务的先后顺序、作业提交的迫切程度、或者甚至是自己的喜好来安排当天的最佳学习节奏。经过这样的思考之后,你会发现其实你并不需要紧跟着老师的指挥棒,线上学习相反让你拥有了更多的自由度来对学习进行安排。学习的主动权掌握在自己的手里,什么时候学、怎样学都由你自己决定,这应该是一件很酷炫的事情!


The first challenge is to study at home. Without the step-by-step guidance from teachers, it is up to you how to use your time. To cope with this challenge, we need to think independently.


For example, can we start our daily distant-learning routine by browsing the schedule of the day, and first determine whether the teacher has invited you to attend the live classroom. Write the time down and you cannot miss it! You can then set your own rhythm of the day according to the order of tasks, the urgency of the assignment submission, or even your own preferences.


Thinking this way, you will find that you don't really need to follow the teacher's baton. Online learning gives you more freedom to schedule your learning. When to learn and how to learn is totally up to you. Isn’t it super cool?


第二个挑战:居家的日子里,和父母相处的时间多了,自己该如何同这段时期同样焦虑的爸爸妈妈们和谐相处,对于这个问题我们需要进行换位思考


很多同学发现,原来不怎么管我们的爸爸妈妈们变得更加唠叨了,甚至会时常干涉我们的私人空间。这个时候就需要进行换位思考,站在父母的角度来看问题,疫情期间的宅家或许对于成人来讲会带来更多的焦虑:家务事包括一日三餐的压力、对家人健康的担忧、对复工的忐忑等等。那我们这时候是否能成为家庭的润滑剂呢,邀请父母一起参加桌面游戏、帮助父母做力所能及的劳动、把自己的学习打理好不让父母为我们操心等等。换位思考让我们从父母的角度来思考亲子关系,使我们成为更理解父母的孩子,也使我们的父母成为更理解孩子的父母!


Challenge No.2: how to live in harmony with the anxiety that comes with the whole family during these days? Try to put yourselves in your parents’ shoes!


Many students may find that their parents become more nagging and , interfering. This is when we need to look at things from our parents' point of view. Besides the higher level adult anxiety,they are also facing the stress from household chores, the preparation of three meals every day, health issues of family members and the pressure from their own work!


Could we be the lubricant of our family during these days? Could we invite our parents to participate in the board games, help parents to do whatever we can, take care of our own learning so that our parents are relived to certain extent?

Empathy allows us to think about the parent-child relationship from the perspective of our parents, so that we can understand each other better.


     第三个挑战来自于我们的反思:究竟什么是学习?离开了学校,是否学习就不存在了?即便身处学校,每天按课表学习,但如果没有了思考、反思与行动,我们的学习还将是真正意义上的学习吗?线上学习,即便课表没有精确到时分秒,但可以通过线上平台自主安排学习,可以向老师发起疑问以促进深入思考,也可以通过同学们组成的互助小组来进行合作学习,这些是否就是真正意义上的学习?


The third challenge comes from our reflection: What exactly is learning? Does learning not exist outside of school? Without thinking, reflection and action, can our learning be viewed as real learning even if we physically sit in the classrooms every day? The online learning schedule is not up to the minute but we can still organize our own learning through online platforms. We can ask teachers questions to promote in-depth thinking, and we can collaboratively work together through peer groups. Can these be called real learning?


      我的理解,学习就应该是无处不在的,学习就应该是每天的生活,而每天的生活就是学习!宅家阶段我们需要对自己的居家生活做出合理的安排,学习如何进行时间管理;疫情期间我们需要面对大量的网络信息,学习如何辨识真伪;我们可以借题和家人、同学一起探讨人与自然-善待野生动物等的环保话题和行动计划,这是探究式学习;我们也可以比较世界各地对于疫情所做出的不同防控举措并且发掘其背后的深层次原因,这是更深度的学习……


In my understanding,learning should be everywhere and learning should be every day of life, and every day of life is learning!


Knowing how to manage time, we are able to make reasonable arrangements for our home life. During the epidemic, we may be overwhelmed with too much information from the internet, which requires us to check the facts and know the right information.The harmonious coexistence between human beings and nature and wild animal protection etc.are all good topics to be discussed with your family members and classmates. A more in-depth learning could be carried out in comparing the different prevention and control measures taken in the countries around the world and explore the deeper reasons behind them.


      同学们请相信,即便在云端,我们仍然在注视着你们的学习,我们仍然关心着你们的成长,我们和你们一样,期待着春暖花开、重归校园的日子!加油!


Please believe that although we may not be able to physically greet you at the school gate, we are still attend your learning and caring about your growth.
