Meet the Counsellors 古北校区升学指导顾问面对面

Today's annual SUIS GB University Fair could not have been organised without the sheer determination and undying passion of our phenomenal university counselling team. We took some time to ask them a few questions in order to get to know them a bit better. Here's what they had to say:

古北校区一年一度的大学展今晚召开，这一活动能成功开展离不开我校大学升学指导团队坚定不移的决心与源源不绝的热情。今天，我们借机与几位升学顾问面对面交流，以便让大家更好地了解他们。来听听几位老师是怎么说的吧！

Tell us about your professional and educational background.

This year marks my 10^th year working in college admission counseling and my 7^th year at SUIS Gubei. Before SUIS Gubei, I was a senior consultant at a British education consultancy working and travelling between China and UK. I got my bachelor degree in Chinese Literature. I am a certified college counselor accredited by University of California, Los Angeles.

今年是我从事大学升学指导工作的第十个年头，也是我加入协和古北校区的第七年。在这之前，我在一家英国教育咨询机构担任资深顾问职位，工作地点在中国和英国两地。我具有中国文学本科学历，并且是加州大学洛杉矶分校认证的大学升学指导老师。

How would you spend your last day on Earth?

要是明天就是世界末日，今天你会怎么度过？

I would spend the day with my family, eating, laughing and cuddling.

我会与家人度过这一天，一起吃东西，大笑，依偎在一起。

I would love to work with a few non SUIS Gubei students from poor socio-economic background every year. I would be able to help the ambitious underprivileged students without financial means to fulfill their dreams of studying abroad.

我非常想要每年为几位外校的贫困学生提供咨询辅导，他们的家庭无法承担高昂的留学费用，我可以通过专业知识与技能，帮助他们实现海外留学的梦想。

Experienced University Guidance Counsellor with over ten years of experience in student counselling; strong education professional with BA in English Language and Literature from BUCT, and MBA from ECNU.

教育背景：英语专业本科，工商管理硕士

工作经验：拥有超过10年国外大学申请以及指导学生的经验

How would you spend your last day on Earth?

要是明天就是世界末日，今天你会怎么度过？

When I think about my last day on earth, the first idea that comes to mind is to treat myself with a fabulous dinner with food from all over the world that I have never got a chance to try. I can already envisioned all the dishes neatly lined up on a nicely decorated table waiting for me and my family.

人间定无可意，怎换得玉脍丝莼？在世界上的最后一天自然是与家人一起享受一次饕餮盛宴，享受“火候足时他自美”的人间至味。

Tell us about your professional and educational background.

谈谈你的专业教育背景。

Having graduated from Shanghai International Studies University with Bachelor degree in English Literature then spending a few years in the management team at SUIS GB, I have found my true passion is college counselling and made a decision for change. I started from the beginning and worked hard to complete my second certification from UCLA. All these efforts paid off when my students received offers from their dream schools.

毕业于上海外国语大学英美文学专业，我于2007年加入协和古北校区担任国际部行政主管。在之后几年的管理工作中，我渐渐对学生升学规划产生了浓厚兴趣并决定职业转型。从头开始，边学边做并利用工作之余完成UCLA升学指导证书，所有的辛苦和努力在学生收到梦想学校录取的瞬间都化为值得。很庆幸我能从事自己所热爱的工作。

How would you spend your last day on Earth?

要是明天就是世界末日，今天你会怎么度过？

I would spend that day with my family. They are my everything!

有些伤感，但我会选择和家人在一起。

Working with students to find where their true passions lie and encourage them to pursue what they are really interested in. Passion pushes people to continuously move forward, which is what I think makes people and communities happy.

帮助学生发现其真正兴趣所在，鼓励他们追逐各自的梦想。因为梦想会推动你不断砥砺前行，学有所获。

2018年你最美好的回忆是什么？

In 2018 I attended IACAC and the Cambridge International Counsellor Conference. They have been valuable opportunities for learning and I beat the jet-leg unexpectedly. Also, I can play snowboard now!!! new skills learnt in 2018!

2018年一如既往得忙碌也同时收获满满。我参加了在美国新奥尔良举办的国际升学指导委员会年度会议以及英国剑桥大学国际升学指导顾问会议。多次的长途飞行还练就了一身落地便自动切换当地时间的真功夫。另外，2018年我可以滑雪板咯，新技能GET！

Angela Zhu

Tell us about your professional and educational background.

谈谈你的专业教育背景。

I graduated with a BA from Bennington College in 2016, where I studied political philosophy and Chinese language and culture. After graduating I worked for the Office of Admissions at Bennington as one of the International Admissions Counsellor, and China Specialist.

我于2016从本宁顿大学毕业，获得学士学位。大学期间我主修政治哲学以及中国语言和文化。大学毕业后，我在母校的招生部门工作，担任国际招生职位，主要负责中国地区招生。

How would you spend your last day on Earth?

要是明天就是世界末日，今天你会怎么度过？

I would spend my last day on Earth going for a hike, scuba diving, or any other activity that would allow me to feel reconnected with nature

 在这地球上的最后一天，我会远足，浮潜或者做任何能让我与自然紧密相连的活动。

你做过些什么或者打算做些什么让世界变得更美好？

My dream is to one day be able to work for an organization that provides access to education to young children who would otherwise not be able to go to school. In the meantime, I want to inspire students to engage with their learning, and understand that learning is a life long journey of continuous improvement, not a means to a degree.

我的梦想是能帮助那些失学的孩子获得教育的机会。同时，我也希望能激励孩子投入学习，理解学习是一个不断提升自我的终生事业，并不是仅仅为了取得一个学位。

2018年你最美好的回忆是什么？

2018年最棒的回忆是10月的时候我和同事们参加了橄榄球比赛。颠覆了我之前对于自己不擅长运动的认知。

Beatrice Ugolini

Tell us about your professional and educational background.

谈谈你的专业教育背景。

After graduating in 2008, I began my career as a University consultant assistant, gaining a lot of experience in university selection, university application, marketing as a university representative. Finally, last year I was able to begin my career as a school university counsellor.

2008念大学毕业后我开始了职业生涯，成为了一名大学升学顾问助理，积累了很多关于大学申请，作为校方代表的经验。去年，我正式成为了一名在校的大学升学指导。

How would you spend your last day on Earth?

要是明天就是世界末日，今天你会怎么度过？

On my last day on Earth I think I would go back to my hometown and stay with my parents. I owe them a lot, especially when I began my university life and was far away from them.

在这最后一天，我会回到我的故乡和我的父母一起度过。我亏欠他们太多，不能总是在他们身边陪伴。

你做过些什么或者打算做些什么让世界变得更美好？

Compared to my childhood, our world is better and better, but one issue that arose with our improved quality of life is food waste. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), food waste is producing 8% of global man-made greenhouse gas emissions. We all have responsibility to save food, and I am eager to do this. No waste, less pollution.

与我孩童时期相比，这个世界变得越来越好，但现在一个亟待解决的问题是食物的浪费。根据食品与农业组织的数据，食品浪费造成了8%的温室气体的排放。我们都有义务节省粮食，我自己就想身体力行。没有浪费，更少污染。

Starting work at SUIS GB in 2018 was an important decision. I am so lucky and grateful to work with my colleagues, as they are hard working, professional and helpful. It is the ideal work environment. Regardless of the questions I have, they will always have an answer.

2018年进入协和工作是人生中一次重大的决定。我非常幸运能和我的同事们并肩奋斗，她们都非常努力，专业，热心给予帮助。这里的工作环境非常宜人。不论我有什么问题，她们都会帮助我找到解决的方法。

Lily He

Tell us about your professional and educational background.

谈谈你的专业教育背景。

I have a Bachelor’s Degree in English language. Having worked in international education for the past ten years, I profoundly understand the characteristics of IB students and I’m adept in communicating with students and parents.

英语专业本科毕业，有着10年国际教育行业工作经验，非常了解IB学生的特性并且善于和学生及家长沟通。

How would you spend your last day on Earth?

要是明天就是世界末日，今天你会怎么度过？

I would cook a table of dishes for my family and quietly enjoy our time together, as the Chinese saying goes “food and love come first”.

I have attempted to be a minimalist and live comfortably with as few material possessions as possible.

我一直试图成为一名极简主义者，舍弃华而不实的物质，保留纯粹的生活所需。

2018年你最美好的回忆是什么？

Shifting careers to University Counselling in 2018 was a huge leap out of my comfort zone, but something I have been working towards for years. I have found the transition to University Counsellor incredibly easy, due not only to the training I have previously done, but also the expertise and sharing of good practices that occur on a daily basis within the University Counselling team.

2018年我跳出了自己的舒适圈开始了大学升学指导的工作。对这一变化，我之前努力、精心准备了很久。我发现工作职责的变化对我来说非常轻松，因为我之前接受了密集的培训。同时，升学指导办公室内同事们每天分享经验和想法也让我受益良多。
