"Why Students Need Art" Lecture by
On the afternoon of June 20th, our primary school invited a famous scholar from Taiwan, Li Liheng, to bring a fun and interesting art lecture to our Wanyuan campus. The lectures was give to our grade four students, and was entitled “Why Students Need Art.”
Mr. Li first used a series of warm-up exercises to activate the children's body and thinking in order to try and get the children integrated into the lecture in a very relaxed state. He then used a set of interesting images to guide the students seeing how art creates beauty through skill, imagination, experience, etc.
In this lecture, many art forms were covered, including painting, sculpture, architecture, drama, dance, music, literature, film and television, etc. This lead the children to think about the value of art from the following four sections.
1. Choice is more important than effort – art is related to life and yet it does not necessarily help a person to survive. However art and beauty make you discover that there are many possibilities within life.
2. Choose the option you need - art is beauty, a feeling that lets you get used to asking for a choice.
3. Provide opportunities for dialogue – art allows you to have awareness of issues, to discover yourself, and create value.
4. An awakening in balance of beauty - contact with art lets you get used to opening the five senses to see the world.
Throughout the lecture, the children were invited to recite and express their feelings. They were invited to perform physical performances, and interact joyfully with Mr. Li. They felt how art exists in life and study. Through this wonderful exchange, I hope that the seedlings of art can be rooted in the hearts of children and that the cultivation of their interest in art, will cultivate the children's self-confidence, so that higher artistic value is created in the near future.
