Schools have been closed for more than one month due to the outbreak. As teachers, we started teaching online from home. Network blurred the concept of distance, combine work and life together. During this unusual period, new experiences and insights were gained through online interactions with students.

Team work make online classes more personalized
For example, students of all nationalities study together in our Grade 7 Chinese class. Six teachers of Chinese Department have worked together to design learning programs for students at different levels and made individualized adjustments to the text. We also prepare homework paper, teaching video, recording text audio as a team. We have launched some live-streaming classes and arrange different groups of students to attend classes at different times according to the schedule so that every student can make progress during the quarantine.

Ann AN:
I feel so good to see the students’ familiar face again. Students also can not hide their excitement. They speak positively, even introverted students also seems to be less stiff across the screen.
Cissy HAN:
It is a very interesting experience to teach students via zoom. Everyone didn't feel any discomfort. Speaking, discussing and sharing are the same as in real classroom except face-to-face. I felt so happy to see those lively faces after such a long time. I knew that they were all safe and we understand each other's feelings during this period. Especially for the graduating class, they should be more active as a team, study hard and live a regular life in order to make up for the lessons lost due to the epidemic.
Fay TAN:
Teachers designed pluralistic ways to verify the students' learning level which including "listening, speaking, reading and writing". We also use the Gradebook or Messages on Managebac to provide personalized feedback and guidance on students' learning outcomes.

In our online interaction with the students, we have heard and read many interesting articles about the children who have grown up and know how to help and care for their families. The best part, of course, is that they can describe their lives in Chinese. Below is a composition form our chinese language students.

With the rapid development of science and technology, we still need a human touch
The outbreak enforce many of us to work online and students to study at home via computer networks, which seem able to meet our demand. Does that mean we no longer need schools in a more technologically advanced future? I can't help but wonder. What will our students think? Their answers are no matter how the technology develops, the difference between humans and robots is the human touch. We humans will always need to communicate and share our joys and sorrows with others face to face.

We meet a lot of new opportunities and also challenges. Teachers are rapidly get used to their new identity: 'network anchor' , they also play a 'mentor' role.
