顺利开学 非常感谢 Thank You All for a Smooth & Safe Return to School

It has been nearly a week since our return to SUIS Wanyuan campus on April 27th. And under the new government requirement of COVID-19’s prevention, the back-to-school preparation work, for many working during this period, has been more painstaking and vast than usual. However, the moment we saw our long-missed students happily enter our safe and beautiful campus again, all the efforts we made suddenly seemed meaningful and worthwhile. Herein, we’d like to take this opportunity to express our heart-felt gratitude to every one of those, be it parents, civil servants, faculty and staff, and students, who have demonstrated great solidarity, commitment, and diligence during this special period of time.

Since the school’s preparation work began, civil leaders from various departments and sectors have visited our campus to provide professional guidance and support. Civil servants from varied levels of education bureaus, supervision offices, public security, fire safety and disease control departments ,etc. have carried out all-round inspection and supervision on the safety, prevention and control, epidemic materials supply works of the school. Every single modification they made to our prevention measures has perfected us render our preparation more accurate, meticulous and comprehensive.

As soon as the outbreak occurred at the end of January, admin support team members of Wanyuan swiftly switched their mindset from holiday mode to epidemic fighting mode. They not only had to be concerned about the prevention of themselves and their own family, but immediately started to prepare for distance learning all from scratch. The administration team took the lead in helping our faculty with regards to numerous matters, such as the purchase of distance learning platforms, trial of the platforms, and training program on the use of the platforms, etc. Thus, when the online distance learning program was first trialed on Feb. 3rd, many teachers were already able to effectively use it and improve this new system through practice, until it was later launched in full scale on Feb. 17th.

Throughout the back-to-school preparation period, all of our admin support team has gone to great lengths to make sure the school has everything for prevetion and control they need for completing all the preparation work two weeks before the official return to school. They ingeniously devised many flow charts to make the complicated prevention measures much easier to understand for all students, parents and staff members, and posted them on our official Wechat account which yields over 20,000 views now. Meanwhile, many faculty members strived to set a good example by actively participating in the safety drill, raising prevention awareness and the “first lesson back in school program”. It was also inspiring to see all our local and foreign faculty members worked well together, and demonstrated great care and commitment in meeting all the new requirements for safety and prevention purposes. In short, we believe all the foregoing extraordinary efforts are what made our smooth and safe return to school possible during such an uncommon time.

It seems many of our students have grown more mature over the past four months. They have taken every single procedure of prevention very seriously, such as showing Suishen Code, exercising social distancing, washing hands regularly, keeping a 1-meter distance, and infrared temperature taking, etc. All these requirements were quite new to them, yet they demonstrated great self-discipline and maturity by carefully following them all. Perhaps one of the reasons why China was able to win this war of pandemic was because almost every single person of the 1.4 billion population knew exactly what they needed to do in difficult times like this. Inspiringly, our Wanyuan students were no different. Suffice it to say, the whole experience of fighting this outbreak has been like a most vivid open class to the public, and our Wanyuan students, just like many others, have learned a great deal from this lesson.
