乐音不止 音乐无限 Can’t live without music

2019年转眼即逝，初中部的音乐课程也华丽丽地落下帷幕。回首一年的音乐旅程，孩子们体验了多文化音乐背景下的音乐，尝试了各种小乐器的强大能量，享受音乐，拥抱音乐！

Time flies, 2019 is already in the past and the middle school music courses in SUIS wanyuan also came to an end with a great note. Looking back the past year, students got to experience various types of music from different culture, tried out all kinds of instruments, though some of them seem little in size, but with incredible power indeed that music can offer! No doubt, our kids had lots of fun riding this amazing music journey. They enjoyed every minute throughout the course and learned to appreciate the beauty of music.

每一年的冬季音乐会和课堂小音乐会，不仅是孩子们音乐课成果的展示，更是一场音乐的盛宴。

The annually held Winter Music Concert gives unique opportunity for all the students to display their music talent and what they have learned through out the courses. It is indeed a festival of music. This year was no different!

冬天的来临，意味着各种美好节日的到来。西方的圣诞节，中国的春节，都是每一年里最隆重、最热闹的传统节日。节日里，我们唱歌，我们跳舞，我们团聚，我们庆祝！六年级的孩子带来的《春节序曲 & Edelweiss》，又有竖笛演奏，又有演唱，充分体现了学校Where East Meets West, 中西文化融合的教育理念。Winter Fantasy是一首由两首歌组成的合唱曲。这首歌将两首截然不同，又同时描写冬季节日的旋律完美地结合在一起，给我们带来愉悦，欢乐的节日气氛。《小星星》是一首耳熟能详的歌曲，六年级的孩子则用竖笛吹奏了不同节奏型的“小星星”，首创了竖笛版“小星星变奏曲”。

As the winter is approaching, places around the world starts to celebrate in their traditional holidays, be it Christmas in the Western world or Chinese Spring Festival here around China. Our 6 graders gave us an amazing performance with their beautiful music. They also played instruments like recorder and sang amazingly in front of the whole audience. The songs they sang include Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, which is very popular and brings lots of happiness and joy for us all on spot.

七年级的孩子选取了电影音乐进行吉他和尤克里里弹唱。Amazing Grace是由英国牧师约翰·牛顿作于1779年的一首传统民谣。2006年英国同名电影再现了牛顿牧师写作这首歌词的过程。中国电影《战狼2》、《无问西东》等都采用了这首歌。这首歌也常常被用在圣诞节演唱，祈福来年平安。The Twelve Days of Christmas是一首圣诞歌曲，歌词讲的是在圣诞前十二天里要为圣诞节准备的十二种礼物，暗示着一些神圣的含义。All Falls Down是北欧电音大师Alan Walker的作品，在开学初“我喜欢的音乐”分享中脱颖而出，因此，Francis老师对歌词进行了改编，更适合七年级的孩子演唱，他们用尤克里里弹唱了这首歌。更值得一提的是，这首歌的和弦转换比较复杂，孩子们在音乐课堂上高效高质量地完成了这首歌的学习。

The 7th graders played several wonderful songs from movies using their string instruments - guitar and ukulele.  First they played one of the most popular Christian songs - Amazing Grace, which is a popular Christian hymn published in 1779, with words written in 1772 by the English poet and Anglican clergyman John Newton. This song also was often adopted in several well-known films worldwide. And it is also used in celebrating Christmas and symbolize peace and a good year ahead. Students also performed other songs and showed the audience what they had learned in class and their ability to use music to encourage, inspire and bring joy to people.

八年级的孩子以Call and Response为主线，用尤克里里弹唱了非洲歌曲Day-O, 配以打击乐鲜明有力的节奏，使这首歌充满浓浓的非洲色彩。在学习南美洲音乐单元时，孩子们学习了电影《寻梦环游记》里催人泪下的插曲Remember Me。音乐会上的尤克里里弹唱版本，同样精美绝伦。在音乐课上，孩子们还学了Scat拟声唱法，这是爵士歌手用声音模拟乐器演奏的一种演唱法。他们用这种演唱方式演唱了We Wish You A Swinging Holiday, 来庆祝冬天的节日。

The 8th graders follows Call and Response, using ukulele to play the famous African song Day-O. Together with the instruments they learned in class, this beautiful song was shown its richness in African culture. They also played the song - Remember Me gracefully. The famous and touching song which they learnt in music class is from the famous movie Coco. Students also showed Scat, which is a way of performing Jazz during their performance. The music skills and their understanding of the essence of music are well displayed throughout the whole Winter Concert.

Francis老师的音乐社团——阿卡贝打，一直深受孩子们的喜欢。社团的名字取自英文的“无伴奏合唱”阿卡贝拉和中文的打击乐，意思是将无伴奏合唱和破铜烂铁乐队打击乐的两种形式相结合。社团孩子在有限的社团时间里，排练了《我和我的祖国》，New Soul, A Million Dreams和Something Just Like That，旋律，和声，背景，节奏，打击乐层次分明，又完美融合，社团的孩子相互配合默契，近乎于完美！

Apart from teaching regular music classes, Ms Francis also hosts an extra curricular club which is well-liked by students. This music club is called A KA BEI DA. It means bringing together A Cappella and STOMP - two types of music style, and form a unique way of playing music. They rehearsed a couple of famous songs beautifully using A KA BEI DA in class. Students not only enjoyed the time spent playing these beautiful songs, they also learned how to collaborate harmoniously in a band to bring out the best music to life.

新的一年，希望音乐课能带给孩子们更多新的尝试，让更多的孩子热爱音乐，享受音乐的美，享受音乐带给每一位孩子的快乐！

In the year 2020 ahead, it is Ms Francis’s best wish that her fun music classes will bring more and more joy and happiness to all the students in SUIS wanyuan!
